..COTTO/PAVLIK: Your Review Of Both Fighters...

How do you think either fighter did last night? Who seemed to handle their first loss better, so on and so forth.

    On Pavlik:
I think that both looked impressive enough. Pavlik seemed like a fighter that was virtually the same, but was trying a bit too much new stuff, to me. Some of his angles that he tried to throw in there left him off balance, and his uppercuts were from a bit too far out. However, he seemed to get the message that he has to try and improve on those areas. That 1-2 thing will only take you so far. Nonetheless, he had a guy with a VERY solid chin in there and got him out of there with little to no problem. So, I give his performace a 7 to a 7.5 out of 10.

    On Cotto:
Cotto seemed like he was trying to prove a point, but didn't get ****** ion trying to do it. He seemed to tighten his defence up, even though he's done that for the last couple of fights/years. Everything seemed to flow pretty well for him and he got hi out of there early, even though the kid had never been stopped. It would have been interesting to see him with a guy that comes forward at all costs, to see how he would have tried to handle the pressure differently, but that's the way it went down. For Cotto, I give his performance a solid 8.5 out of 10.

This is all just me, though.

    What do you guys think?

both fair assessments imo. i actually like pavlik trying some new stuff against rubio. better to work on it against him, and not a top tier fella. i though both bounced back well, and cotto looked a little better than kelly. good night for both guys overall. people are always gonna hate, and be ****'s with criticism but i feel they are both fine after the big losses.

I said it in the thread last night there was something about Pav's performance last nite that i didnt like. I think the fact he was in YT meant he was trying the spectacular. I know exactly what you mean with those wild off balance uppercuts.

I wont chide him for being the same fighter because a loss shouldn't mean you change your whole style rather its a lesson in adapting your style as well as tactics. Its unfair for people to criticise him for that as we wont know if he has learnt anything until he comes up against Hopkins again
