Because there were few good white boxers in the US, just a lot of "white hopes" that turned out to be less than elite (like Cooney) Americans came to believe that white men are less able to become world-class boxers (the real reason was that the prosperous whites in the US found easier, less risky ways to make a living).

So now when bona fide elite fighters from other countries like Calzaghe and the Klitschkos come along, some people are inclined to think they can't really be that good...

Put it this way, have you seen chad Dawson punch in his fights, he's young, no hand injuries and punches soft like a bender slapping.
If Dawson was white he would be getting slagged off like a ***** on these forums.

How exactly to you calculate ring age exactly?

You calculate it by applying it accordingly to your own agenda.

more people would like him if he was white and american .. you saw how fast kelly pavlik was about to blow up until he got beat by father time bernard hopkins... joe calzaghe being white does him justice.. but if he were white and american he would do boxing a great deal getting interest from mainstream socety to et back into to boxing ... even tho boxing is doing well right now

Personally, no. He's a good fighter but he's not a hall of famer in my book.
