    Best Body ****ers

Who are the best body punchers in current day boxing? What about in boxing history? Personally, I love a left hook to the liver more than any single shot.

The great middleweight, Tony Zale could really whack downstairs. And Eddie Mustapha Muhammad put a savage beating on Marvin Johnson's body back in the 70's. Vasiliy Jirov was a monster to the body in his prime. Probably the only fighter I have ever seen who threw more body shots than work to the head.

Here's a look at the best guys around today:

"Body shot!" screamed a gleeful Nate Campbell, immediately after catching Almazbek Raiymkulov with an uppercut to the solar plexus as Raiymkulov was lunging in.

Almazbek, otherwise known as Kid Diamond, d****d his arms around Campbell. After referee Brian Garry separated the two combatants, Kid Diamond turned his back on Campbell as if looking for a way out the ring. Upon being told to turn around, the normally aggressive Raiymkulov was chased around the ring for several seconds before the HBO commentators started postulating on what was wrong with him.

Unnoticed by most of the observers watching the bout, the sneaky shot to the body in the 5th round silently turned a boxing clinic into a frightening beating. Kid Diamond was knocked down twice before the bell sounded to end the 5th, and was tormented throughout the remainder of the fight before it was finally stopped on another body shot with 45 seconds left in the final round.

    Yes!

I'm not the only one who slobbers over Eddie's raking of Marvin's body. He destroyed him with those left hooks to the body.

In addition to the list in the link, I'd add Fernando Montiel. He's a sick body puncher.

In the past, there's many guys. Tyson, Frazier, Chavez, Duran, McCallum, Jones, Arguello, Trinidad, Armstrong, etc..

McCallum's body attack on Watson really was something.

At the press conference for Campbell-Funeka, someone asked Campbell if body punching won him the fight. He said that body punching won him every fight.

Chris Byrd always struck me as an underrated body puncher. His straight left to the body was very useful in chopping down Jameel McCline and Holyfield.

Vasiliy Jirov of course was a great body puncher. He lost the Toney fight because he was headhunting too much.

Nowadays, Cotto's body attack is sick.

I always loved Tyson's body work. he used it to set up his uppercuts and short arc hook all the time. And co-sign Jirov. Dude was a body stalker like no other.

Some of Campbells body shots were damn near nasty that fight. He was ripping to Ali's body.

How about Arturo Gatti against Wilson Rodriguez? Rodriguez was being chopped down to the liver against Gatti, it was sickening.

Yeah, he was really accurate. I think better than 2 for 18.

                  (Sorry, I couldn't help myself).
