Vargas had 20 wins. Green. Young Vargas was pretty good, though. Decent enough win.
    Yeah, one fight in between.

Reid was a highly ranked champ who took out another highly ranked champ in Laurent Bouduani.

Vargas was a top ten pound for pounder who was never that good again.

It is green, I agree, but when you're hyped up to the level Jeff Lacy was I guess that's a good enough reason to fight him.

Really? What about if you're hyped up even more and are ranked in the top ten pound for pound? What about then?

Yes! Good enough reason for sure, but is it really all that spectacular? As you said, Vargas was never that good again. It's not like Trinidad annihilate a legend or something. Nonetheless, good win.

Trinidad = never on Hopkins' level.

If Lacy is a good win for Calzaghe, beating a pound for pounder like Vargas is a great win for Tito. Agreed that Tito was never on Hops level but who said he was? Was asking why you weren't impressed...

Ahh, standards and double standards these days.

Why are you turning this into another Joe Calzaghe thread? There's no double standards here mate. FWIW, Calzaghe's best win (IMO, and always has been) was Eubank. Lacy? Good enough win, if only to prove his doubters completely wrong when they said he'd be knocked out easily.

But dude, no need for another Calzaghe thread. **** that.

Man, I'm not turning it into anything. Even now Jeff Lacy can't hold Vargas' jockstrap.

                    But carry on.

Before Calzaghe he could. Just go back and check the hype.
