It kinda does. More people disagree with you than agree, plus the time is currently more suited to Americans than UK posters.

Hatton is a great when he's allowed to hold and hit but sucks when the rules are forced

Haye is talented but must realize he's going to lose to Wlad based on the way he's negotiating. Reminds me of Hatton claiming he wanted to fight Mayweather for years but only doing it when he started thinking about retirement because he wanted to cash out. Seems like Haye is trying to cash out with this fight

Calzaghe waited until all his truly dangerous opponents got old, so he gets zero respect from me

Lennox Lewis was a truly great fighter and one of the top 10 heavies ever

Naseem was talented but no match for the truly great fighters around his weight (Barrera, Morales, etc)

What about some of the old-school fighters? There are some really great ones.

          Jimmy Wilde
          Jim Driscoll
          Bob Fitzsimmons
          Randy Turpin
          Ken Buchanan
          Freddy Welsh
          Ted Lewis
          Freddie Mills

No doubt there are some I missed...

Yeah because we all know Hopkins is shot as hell nowadays don't we.

The reason Jones/Calzaghe etc never happened in thier primes was because Jones wanted something like 85% of the money and for joe to fight him in his back yard and for Joe's title only.

I would have said no to that BS too.

Well, first of all, seeing as Jones moved to light heavyweight in 1996 (a whole year before JC even became a champion), and Hopkins wasn't actually in his weight class either (skipped from 160, right past 168 to 175 in 2006), it makes me wonder why so many people act as though he was obligated to fight them. Had they been in the same weight class I might be able to understand it a little easier.

Second, it's not like people don't know that the fight between Calzaghe and Hopkins fell through in 2002. Nobody was to blame for that except Hopkins.

Warren was negotiating with Jones as far back as 9 years ago.

Here are some links (from 2000 - 2003) which explain it further:

I can't think of any other fighters who were old. And of course, when he fought Hopkins and Jones, he was 36 years old himself. One could argue that they waited for him to get old and past his best before they became willing to give him a shot. It works both ways.

                      Calzaghe ready for ultimate challenge

Wales' WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe has thrown down the gauntlet to Roy Jones Jr.

Few would care to cross Jones, the undisputed light-heavyweight king and a man recently nominated as Fighter of the Decade.

Yet Calzaghe is unworried: "I have no fear whatsoever of Jones... I would jump on the next plane to the States and defend my title against him in his own backyard if the opportunity arose," he said.

Calzaghe's comments came after Jones hinted he may step down a weight for his next fight, following a disappointing display against Eric Harding.

Jones' eleventh-round victory in that fight took his record to 43-1, including 35 knock-outs.

Many experts still regard Jones as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, but Calzaghe may sense that he has the chance of a victory that would put his name on the lips of the boxing world.

The undefeated Calzaghe was certainly talking the language that fight promoters like to hear:

"I am the best super-middleweight in the world and I am out to prove that I am the best fighter on the planet. If Jones disagrees, lets get it on," he said.

"Jones is supposed to be the best fighter in the world at the moment. A showdown between us has got to happen to prove who is the best."

Calzaghe looked to be back to his best after destroying the highly rated American challenger Omar Sheika in the fifth round of a thrilling fight at the Wembley Conference Centre in August.

It was possibly his best performance since he claimed the title in a magnificent encounter with Chris Eubank. Since that fight his work has been disappointing, though this could be blamed on a series of hand injuries that have disrupted his preparations.

"The Sheika fight was the turning point for me," said Calzaghe.

"He was a dangerous fighter and he brought out the best in me. I believe against Jones, who is leagues above Sheika, you will see the best of Joe Calzaghe."

Frank Warren, Calzaghe's promoter, is trying to finalise a deal with Jones' promoter Murad Muhammed and is talking to the WBO to make the fight happen.

"Roy says he has difficulty in finding opponents but he has Joe Calzaghe - the best fighter in the division - waiting to fight him and ready to put his title on the line.

"I am close to making the fight happen and when it does we will see who is the best in the world," said Warren.

                      Calzaghe ready for America

... Now Calzaghe will risk his undefeated record on the other side of the Atlantic. He is expected to fight in the United States for the first time this summer, but ambitions to step up a level to take on the No1 light-heavyweight Roy Jones seem likely to be thwarted.

Jones was offered $5m (£3.5m) to fight Calzaghe by the US television company Showtime earlier this year, but has since renewed his contract with Showtime's rivals HBO, making the fight unlikely in the foreseeable future and Calzaghe may attempt instead to seek super-middleweight unification contests.

                      Calzaghe vs the Executioner

Hopkins, say the Calzaghe camp, has been running scared for too long. Dodging deals, changing his telephone numbers and hiking pay demands at the last minute.

A war of words erupted this week when Calzaghe, bullish in the wake of his blistering destruction of Byron Mitchell in Cardiff last weekend, told Hopkins to stop running away and agree to face him.

He was responding to Hopkins's demand that the Gwent man go to the States for any showdown.

"He can have it anywhere, anytime," stormed Calzaghe.

"I would fight him in his front room if it meant the fight going on.

"Hopkins, you've pulled out of enough fights this year, don't find an excuse to let our fight slip away."

Hopkins's reputation of being insufferably unpredictable at the negotiating table, of accepting a deal one day, then doubling his demands the next could yet scupper things.

Jay Larkin, boss of US TV channel Showtime which screens Calzaghe's fights, admitted getting Hopkins to reason is difficult.

"With Bernard you never know. He comes to us from outer space sometimes."
