The alphabet belts in itself carries little significance for me and probably little for other hardcorefans as well. The problem is that we are a small minority who doesn't bring the revenue. Heck a lot of hardcore fans will rather watch fights on a decent stream than pay the odd fifty bucks for the PPV.

The belts (including the WBO) carries significance for Joe Average as he gets spun into the web created by broadcasters marketing departments convinging poor Mr. Average that he should buy this particular fight as it is a CHAMPIONSHIP fight and hence world class boxing.

Exactly. Fingers crossed that 5 years from now this will be the case.

all the belts should vanish except for the ring title of course. but the wbo is no different than the other.

the WBO has had alot of worthy champions so i don't know what are you talking about.

wba is much worst and the ibf basically don't do **** in boxing.the wbo expands his titles around the world, not only in the US.

i don;t even have to mention the wbc.

but i agree, they should take all the titles and leave the ring.

That is why I have no problem with them because really they bring more money and oppurtunity to fighters. Although sanctioning fees are pretty horrendous, but the organizations need to pay for **** too.

The WBO belt sets that fighter's mandatories. If the fighter does not fight the mandatories, the belt is supposed to strip him.

can they at least do their job?

lol good example. As soon as he hit world class opposition - boom! Wide UD for Freitas.

Credit to Calzgahe though, he stepped it up for the big fights (although his mandatories and defences were a bit a joke sometimes.. cough Veit cough)

things do seem to be going full circle, with us being so overwhelmed by alphabet belts that their significance drops and The Ring becomes the one belt (that matters)
