First and foremost, I am a big fan of Campbell. Big fan...I was so impressed on how he took out Juan Diaz, just by being determined and enduring the whole ordeal. With that said, he did not make weight. That is an unfair advantage in most cases.
Funeka was the better boxer, with nice combinations, long range attacks, some good body shots, high punch output thru-out 3/4s of the fight. He was winning rounds like crazy, while Campbell was just lunging in head first in the man's chest, although smartly using it to pile up body shots. But we all know the first knockdown was not intentional, Campbell got lucky, but it was revealing...revealing of Funeka's weakness that is.
Granted, Campbell did score 2 knockdowns...but he was a fluke in there, he kept stalking Funeka, but Funeka had control for most of the fight anyway. Campbell was exhausted, his composure was horrid. Funeka seem to tire in the late rounds after his large volumes of punches in the early half. But i think it has to do with the advice is corner was giving him. I think they were telling him to pull back some, so as not to tire. Which was crazy, because he was doing great in there, had a fine handle on Campbell.
I did not know Funeka goin' into the bout...but i am now a fan. This guy can box, very good physique, adapts quite well and seems to be thinking unlike other fighters. He had a very good handle on Nate until the later rounds...where i think he got tired
On another note: Cintron ****ed up....i was rooting for him....but i gotta say, Martinez won that fight. Cintron couldn't deal with the situation, didn't adapt, got bullied mentally and frankly seemed to be whining. I really wanted him to win, but Sergio played him like a harp. I never did see Cintron right make much of an influence.
