    questions for mexicans: izzy vasquez

How come mexicans hype up and defend guys like margarito (cheater), ortiz (unproven), angulo (unproven), etc... and not give israel vasquez any love???

Vasquez is probably the best example of the mexican style of boxing (good chin, take 2 to land 1, hard-hitting, etc..) today. Vasquez is never in a bad fight. Vasquez is classy outside the ring as well as inside the ring. In general most boxing fans like this guy and respect him...

Why hasn't Vasquez been crowned as the quintessential mexican boxer??? why do mexicans continue to defend margarito or bandwagon prospects instead of lifting up Vasquez as their champion???

I'm not mexican, but I'll answer anyway.
it's because vasquez's recent wars was with another mexican.
    it's a nationalistic thing.

I support him 100 percent. But its sort of hard like the guy above me said since his last 3 fights were against another mexican great. Mexican fight fans are pulled apart on that.

I'm not Mexican, but I certainly respect him as a warrior. He isn't cheery-picking, if he goes out, he will do so against Lopez, Marquez, Caballero and so on. Just the best in the division.

not true... morales and mab fought 3 times but both had more popularity than vasquez does now.

And just to clarify, I realize Vazquez was born in Mexico. However, he speaks English on a regular basis, and lives and fights out of California.

See above. He speaks English quite regularly. It's not as good as Barrera's english, but it's not bad either. I understand him perfectly.

Other than speaking little english he's on the same boat as margarito. Both train, live, and fight out of california. Except margarito was actually born in torrance.
