  • Genuine ATGs of the modern era?

... because there comes a time when you have to realise that Roy, Calzaghe and Hopkins were a trio of overrated batty boys who would be lucky to get 80-100 all time.

For me there's only one: Danny Williams.

I might also argue for Holyfield, and I guess, after a fashion, that obese ****sexual Jamaican (after a fashion).

I'd also be looking at the likes of Barrera and Ping Ping.

It depends on what you consider the modern era, are we talking 1990 onward? or 2000 onward?

Say 1990 onwards. Obviously no earlier... everyone in NSB knows that boxing was only invented in 1980.

personally (maybe cos i'm young) i feel the 90's to the early 2000's was something of a golden era, so much depth in talent in the sport in just about every division... So many superstars

i think Jones Jr. and Hopkins are definitely ATG's, even if they are slightly overrated by certain people at times (overrated =/= ****)... And Calzaghe probably sc****s into the top 100 all-time so I guess that puts him ATG status? Or borderline anyway

Mayweather Jr. and Pacquaio too, and Barrera's a good shout

Sugar Shane, De La Hoya and Trinidad are also there or thereabouts. HoF bordering on ATG. Whitaker's whole welterweight run was during the 90's as well, as was his win over Nelson

Lennox Lewis and Holyfield (Holyfield moreso than Lewis, imo) too

Nods from me would go to

            Hopkins
            Jones
            Calzaghe
            Mayweather
            Pacquiao
            Barrera
            Morales
            Whitaker
            Lewis
            Holyfield

There are quite a few others I'm standing on the fence on, but those ones I can say with absolute clarity.

I agree with the Bringer. He brings it. On the daily. Like a milkman. Or a paper boy.

Trinidad would also probably get the nod from me. As much as I dislike him (mostly because of his fans), he had a hell of an impact. And even though he was as one dimensional as they come and always found himself outclassed against fundamental fighters (Oscar (robbed), Hopkins, Wright....), he was a three division World Champion with wins over some impressive competition.

Mosley and Oscar I would not give the nod to, for differing reasons.
