There has been a lot of talk about in the press about the Frank Warren's Olympic fighters however, not a great deal (certainly from what I have seen) has been said about Darren Sutherland who I think his having his second fight soon already, looks in fantastic shape and certainly seems very level headed. I hope both can fight for the european or a world title to hopefully ignite the super middleweight division you can also add George groves into that mix! (i know DeGale is gonna start as a middleweight) like in the Benn Eubank years.
A couple of points really.
1. Firstly who do you think will be better promoted? Warren, Maloney or Hayemaker fighters?
Personally I think Maloney and possibly Hayemaker, Warrens fighters wont even fight for british title I wouldnt have thought!! I think Maloney will let his fighters develop in their own time, I mean Maloney has stood by Napa and done wonders with Munroe. I jsut think Warren likes to cash in straight away, after ten or so fights his fighters with be fighting for WBO intercontental belts and other utterly pointless trinkets. If you look at Khan he is world rated but not even the best in England! Traditionally he would have had to clear up here first before moving onto the worlds.
2. Who do you think will be the most successful?
As amaeters (and being a brummie lad) Frankie Gavin pretty much won everything and is highly touted, I think if he stays focussed he could win a world title. I am not sure DeGale style will suit the pros but that will depend on his trainer, technically he is a good fighter but i am not sure (if he had not won gold) whether he could get bums on seats. Billy Joe Sanders is very young and I think will have time to develop a good pro style but I dont know enough about his fighting to say whether he will be great, but I think less pressure is on him compared to warrens other two. Sutherland looks like a monster but will all that muscle effect his flexibility? (see lacey and bruno), Jefferson (is that right the sunderland lad) the light heavy division domestically is ripe for a clean up with Clinton coming towards the end of his career there is an opportunity there. David Price is certainly big enough and training along side Haye can only be a bonus to him.
3. I was watching Steve Bunces boxing hour the other night (ues I know who alot of you feel about old buncey!) and I could place Sutherlands accent! He sounded american!
