Showtime hasn't done a PPV in a few years I believe, they also probably show good fights on a more consistent basis compared to HBO but both networks have had their fair share of duds.

Here's what I think of the two:

HBO gets the big names, which doesn't always mean entertaining fights. They generally control the names that are the most meaningful to the sport though.

Showtime has to pick what is left, which includes a lot of the really low weight division fighters, and since they don't have star power, Showtime can generally pick the entertaining fighters, and that is how they keep up with HBO.

I like HBO better because the broadcast, announcers, etc. are just terrific. Plus, I'll take meaningful over entertaining all day long.

In terms of coverage of boxing, Showtime destroys HBO and i wish they had more top fights.

They dont seem as biased, they score fights with dignity, and Al Bernstein clearly knows about boxing, he can look at a fight and analyze tactics. Unlike the *** merchant, who keeps making these ****** boxing puns that no one cares about.

Watch Arce vs Vic, as soon as the fight starts Bernstien (i think it was him anyways) realizes Arce is moving into the left hand of vic and that is gonna cost him the fight, I was saying exactly the same thing too. Tactically showtime are far better.

            Showtime know about boxing.

I'm not American so i don't pay for PPV's, but from what i've seen i prefer Showtime. Intelligent commentary called right down the middle. Plus entertaining fights (Dawson vs Johnson, Izzy vs Rafa, Darchinyan vs Arce etc.)

Though HBO, although the commentary is really biased, you can have a laugh at what they are talking about, plus they get the mega fights.
