Klitschko-Haye Close For O2 in London, Says Steward

Emanuel Steward, trainer of IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir KLitschko, was told by his fighter that a contract for a June 20 showdown with David Haye is close to finalized, with the O2 Arena in London as the frontrunner venue. Steward said that Klitschko called him on Tuesday night to discuss the size of the ring for the fight with Haye. [details]

Can someone fill me in on this O2 arena. How big it is and it's historical importance?

Too right. I was looking forward to travelling only so far to reach my nearest stadium (thank goodness it wasn't Twickenham they were considering).

Now I'll have to go clear across the ruddy city using all those trains, just for a measly dome-shaped arena which was for many years the laughing stock of London (it'll always be the 'Millenium Dome' to me).

Good to hear. I think Wlad is gonna ruin Haye, but it should be exciting while it lasts. Plus, it's a relevant HW fight...those are rare.

It's a good arena with a capacity of around 20,000.

I've heard good things about it, but come on... 20k is nothing compared to potentially 50k at Stammers (if they scatter folks onto the pitch).

Would they pull in 50K, you reckon? 20,000 I can see happening.
