The movie was heavily made up I think. Bob Satterfield himself was a decent fighter. He was very strong, but he had no chin. Lost to the best most of the time.

As you can see, he had a big punch and a glass chin, one of the most entertaining fighters to watch at the time. He was a top ranked HW contender throughout the 50's although he only weighed 170-180 lbs and his opponents often 200+.

Satterfield has to be considered among the hardest punchers of all time, pound for pound. He had big wins over Harold Johnson, Nino Valdes, John Holman, Cleveland Williams and Bob Baker.
