come on man bernard hopkins aint gonna duck chad dawson..look dawson struggled with glen johnson and he be better be lucky to have fought a 44 bernard hopkins instead of an 36 year old bernard who would have no problem knocking him out in the later rounds after breaking him down with left hooks to the body..rememeber keith holmes ? dawson got some skills but he has flaws still..bernard hopkins is too skillful for chad dawson to be thinking he can out think or out hustle bernard hopkins

At thi spoint the only fights hopkins wants is/are big money fights mainly Joe C and RJJ before Joe dusted him up in Nov. Chad doesn't bring a big enough name to the table. He is still NOT house hold material and the casual boxing fan has no clue who he is. If Hopkins fights this year it will be because he wants too make more money. If fights anyone beside Joe C I will be surprised if it was Chad. I wouldnt mind seeing Chad and JT go at it at 168....Lefty

I agree with that.I think chads not being a household name and not getting the fight with bhop is a mirror of what calzaghe went through for years at smw.Chad is better placed though.Another good showing against tarver,and then either rematch johnson(no money in that though),or go down to 168.If he can get down to that and still be effective,he should be able to do well

No he isn't. He is one of the best, but no where no the best fighter that Jones has faced. John Ruiz, Virgil Hill, Bernard Hopkins, Tarver, Johnson ect are all some very good fighters and are hall of fame worthy. Eric Harding was also a very underrated skilled southpaw that gave Jones fits, the fight was close until Harding broke his ankle and recieved the TKO loss.

Every year i get one follower on this site. How old are you? No matter what you say, Ruiz has fought everyone, hes been top 10 in the heavyweight division for over a decade and hes a 4 or 5 time world champion regardless of his boring fighting style. And i didn't say he was in the hall of fame, i said HALL OF FAME WORTHY.

I also didn't put his quote in my signature for a laughing matters, i did it because i find it interesting how someone could possibly think that a 43 year could beat a 26 year old who has the style that troubled him through his career and is naturally bigger as well. It did make ME laugh. because of the ''bitchslap'' part though.

Yes he has proven his credentials but that doesn't mean he can't duck anyone, there's no age limit to ducking.

The trickle-down effect of Joe Calzaghe’s retirement has already started.

Calzaghe, who announced last week that his boxing career was over, sent an email to THE RING on Friday officially stepping down as the magazine’s light heavyweight world champion.

“It’s been a great honor to be THE RING champion, but because I am now retired I would like to relinquish the title and give somebody else the opportunity,” wrote Calzaghe, who also was the former super middleweight champion.

Calzaghe leaves the sport with a perfect record and worthy candidates to take his place.

Obviously, THE RING would recognize the winner of what would be an intriguing matchup between No. 1-rated Bernard Hopkins and No. 2 Chad Dawson as the new 175-pound champion.

And Hopkins is open to that prospect, provided Dawson beats Antonio Tarver in their rematch on March 14. THE RING magazine Editor Nigel Collins ran into Hopkins at Andy Carr's Gym in Upper Darby, Pa., on Friday.

“Bernard said he would have no problem fighting Dawson, but did not think there would be much money in the match,” Collins said. “He also said he thinks Dawson has a good chance of stopping Antonio Tarver in their rematch.”

Hopkins, who doesn’t have a fight scheduled, was referring to the fact that Dawson doesn’t have the following to generate the kind of payday Hopkins seeks at this point of his career.

A showdown with Dawson, the prospect of which would be very appealing to knowledgeable fans, might be too big a risk for Hopkins in light of a limited financial reward.

Remember, Hopkins, 44, had trouble in two close losses to quick-handed Jermain Taylor – and that was in 2005. Dawson is a much better version of Taylor, left-handed and, at 26, in the prime of his career.

That said, we wouldn’t put anything past the seemingly ageless Hopkins.

Calzaghe’s retirement also opened up a spot in THE RING’s pound-for-pound ratings.

The Welshman was rated No. 3, meaning Nos. 4-10 all move up a notch. That allows Vic Darchinyan to enter the pound-for-pound ratings at No. 10.

Darchinyan turned in another dominating performance on Saturday in Anaheim, Calif., stopping game, but overmatched Jorge Arce. The fight was stopped after the 11th round with the popular Mexican bloodied and beaten.
