What does Barrera have to do to defeat Morales

Morales at this stage of his career seems unbeatable. In his upcoming matchup againts the baby-faced assasin, he is certainly the heavy favorite. What does MAB have to do to be able to dethrone Morales at 130? What weaknesses should he exploit and what should be his gameplan coming into the fight? I guess the most obvious question would be, what does it take to defeat Erik Morales?

I don't know if at this stage of his career and this weight, Barrera can beat Morales. Morales is not unbeatable, as I see Corrales and Casamayor as heavy favorites against him. Morales pulls another Ayala performance and punishes Barrera all the way to the final bell, taking a unanimous decision. Although, I've been wrong in the past (As recently as 1999!).

Barrera is going to have to come in the fight with the mentality of their first fight. Defense and stay in Morale's face where Morales cant get full leverage on his punches. His shorter fast hands will allow him to be the man that close. He also needs to be a little dirty here and there and try to throw morales off his game plan. He is safe at a close distance and should have the advantage but he will need to be aggressive and relentless inside.

Trying to Box from the outside like he started doing against lesser opponents after their first encounter will result in a KO earlier than most anticipate. Morales has the right gloves, speed, and relentlessness to cause Barrera the fight should he decide to try.

Barrera's problem is more mental than physical and if his mind is right he could walk away with a hard fought W under his belt.

Basically he will have to be Aggressive, arrogant, rough, and relentless. At the same time he will have to remember not to give Morales the distance.

Fully agree. Reacting to pressure is not Morales' A game. He controls distance so well he'll catch you every single time. MAB should outwork Morales. The ropes haven't been too good with Morales and MAB should exploit that.

These 2 had given their best in 2 fights. They both know what to do. But even one has seemingly the physical advantage, still previous 2 fights had shown that no one can dominate the other clearly. As clear as how Pacman brutalized Barrera. So clear Barrera's brother was crying as he threw the towel.
I hate a close decision result in this 3rd bout. But I believe this will still be a close bout. Only the big-mouth Ayala deserved a knock-out.

I agree with you guys. The thing is, Barrera CAN'T fight Morales in his calculating-boxer-and-laid-back-counterpuncher mode. MAB has to bring the fight to EM, bring him into a war, keep him close inside. Yes, with the same attitude as in the 1st fight.

The first fight was all about respect. The second fight the two fighters respected each other too much. This fight will probably be an extension of the last fight. I believe Morales should cruise to an easy UD. I think Morales would not try and KO Barrera out of respect for him and if Barrera doesn't try go after Morales this could be a pretty boring fight. Barrera knows the ride is almost over and would accept his final loss to a fellow countryman.

No this third fight is for closure. For Barrera this is the fight with his career on the line. For Morales to cement his name over Barrera leaving no doubt that he is superior. I think this would prove to be a war much like the first.
