Well, it's all opinion at the end of the day.

I don't agree with that. Calzaghe looked good in those fights because he was fighting good opponents. He rasied his game. People say he was in his prime, but no 35yr old is in his prime. If you put the Calzaghe that beat Eubank in the ring with Lacy, Lacy would have been stopped before the 5th. The only reason the fight lasted as long as it did was because Calzaghe had no power left.

Calzaghe has not been a prime fighter for a good few years now.

Yeah, Eubank was the toughest fight. IMO, it was his best overall win.

His best performance was against Lacy. Masterpiece.

Which fights? Him and Warren did try to get Jones in 2000, and you already know the story about the 2002 Hopkins fight, I'm sure.

When Calzaghe was younger he relied on his power more than actual boxing. After he broke his hands, Joe had to create a whole new outlook on scoring points. IMO he improved much more from his Eubank fight to now. His movement, countering and even jab all were adjusted accordingly with a new twist.

The fighters are like night and day. Lacy's chin is very solid, even now Calzaghe has some pop and he landed enough punches on Jeff to stop most fighters. He even hurt Kessler with a body shot. His power didn't just disappear.

An ancient proverb like this is not supposed to be taken so literally. It means to always push yourself to do better, that's all.

Here are some explanations to save me from typing this out and getting deep on a boxing forum where it probably isn't welcomed.
