Hopkins has an excuse, he had an overactive thyroid. Freddie roach confirmed it. Prime symptom is extreme fatigue. Shilstone couldn't get it under control with diet. Docs pretty much told Freddie that was a questionable way to deal with it as well.

It explains the night and day performances from Wright - Pavlik

AND he still will won TIRED.

I don't think Calzaghe gets enough credit for the Hopkins victory. People just assume because Hopkins was a 43 years old man it should of been a easy win.

What people don't understand was Bernard Hopkins isn't your average 43(44 now) year old, his body has been tested and is at the age of around a 26 year old.

Going into that fight he was coming off wins over Winky Wright and Antonio Tarver. And the fight after Joe, he destroyed (wipe washed) the Undisputed Midleweight Champion, the 26 year old, number #6/7 pounder for pounder Kelly Pavlik who was in his prime of his career.

So even do it was close and wasn't done in the best of ways Joe still got the win, and no one has ever desrotyed Hopkins, he a very exprineced, tricky tough customer.

So i belive Calzaghe gets to much stick for this fight.

            Something folks rarely mention

One thing I really like from Joe in this fight is that he didn't go along with BHop into the gutter and say something racist. I will always be upset with Hopkins for ruining the spirit of a good intercontinental bout with the racism he injected into the fight. And I'd have a hard time seeing how anyone who lets fly what came out of his mouth could get the benefit of the doubt in a decision.

He wasnt being racist, if you understand boxing he was only trying to sell the fight, also he isnt the first to use that analogy for a European fighter.

Yes he was, did you see how he also did Pavlik when their fight was over? And look at how everyone took what he said to Joe. I've never seen such a pissed boxing public leading up to a fight in awhile.

if it wasn't such a close fight and Joe's performance had been better, it'd def be his most impressive win

yeah Hopkins was old, but he's one of the greatest "old fighters" ever

the Kessler win just about trumps it for me though, seeing as Calzaghe actually looked like the winner that time

When he made the statement all the white writers around laughed, most people didnt even see the footage but read it, when you read it as with everything else you never feel the brevity of what something is said. You just dont get it, if you followed boxing long enough you would see he was selling the fight, also he was making reference to that statement basically being used before already for a nationality fight. If Hop was racist he wouldnt have white people all around him, use your head.

Listen man, you don't say what Hop did period. Joe got under his skin, and he flared up. Casual spectators/fans did not think he was just foolin'. You can't convince people you're fooling when you say something like that.
