They had a genocidal campaign against the Armenians, which they do not accept or apologize for til this day. It's not hard to realize why that would really bother someone, imagine if your people had gone through something like that.

Unless you are from a place where there is a decent sized population of Armenians, it definitely is not taught in schools, but yeah, it's not something that can ever be acceptable or fun to make fun of.
