Roy Jones in his prime...

I watched Ali vs Frazier 3 last night ive seen it before, but one thing that stood out to me was the lack of mobility in Ali. That fight reminded me of Jones vs Calzaghe, because when you are fighting a Calzgahe or a Joe Frazier the only thing Calzgahe/ Frazier have on their mind, for dealing with fighters like Ali and Jones is.......... they wanna get you outta the centre of the ring and get you backed up on the ropes, where they can get something done, now a prime Ali had the legs to offset Frazier a little bit, but that version of Ali took major major punishment on the ropes, because he had no legs at that stage of his career. I think its the same kinda scenario with Jones vs Calzaghe fight.Last edited by Dynamite Kid; 02-06-2009, 04:51 PM.Comment

Jones was the truth in his prime, the man was utterly sick. I would have liked to see him seek out a true challenge in the late '90s instead of his mis-mandatories. Still, I never thought I'd see him beat in my lifetime.Comment

Yeah and some of the binmen he fought went 12 rounds with him. The Bum called lou del Vel knocked down a prime Roy Jones in 1998. A worse version of of Hopkins than the one who fought Calzaghe won 4 of the last 8 rounds against Jones in 1993. Sure Jones looked like superman against the tomato cans he fought, any fight against a PRIME Calzaghe and PRIME Jones would have gone the distance.Comment

There were points where he just wasn't plain quick enough to hit Joe. Joe dipped on him one time and smiled back at him for his effort. That really stood out for me.Comment
