I say do it at 200lbs.
James “SuperSize Me” Toney Says He Will K.O. Bernard Hopkins! by Vitali Shaposhnikov (Scribe)
February 05, 2009
Big Ten Signing-Day Dream Team: Offense"I know that my promoter (Dan Goossen) is seeking the best fights for me in the heavyweight division," James Toney said. "However, I am willing to drop down to 185 pounds and fight Bernard Hopkins. They say that he is a legend. I will prove that I am the living legend. He is a good fighter, but I will knock him out."
Knowing that Hopkins has never fought over 174 pounds in his career, that’s a pretty crazy statement to make. What is James looking for? Is he trying to put his name together again? Retire not a loser? Get another big payday? Make some headlines? Is he for real?
I say yes for all of the aforementioned. There is only one problem: The fight will never happen. Let me try to dissect this whole idea and come up with some explanation for myself.
Why would Hopkins even consider this fight? He would have to fight at a new and a very uncomfortable weight (that is if Toney ever makes weight). He can get other good fights out there. What can Hopkins gain from a win against Toney? Not much.

What about Toney? First of all, even if the fight happened, I do not see Toney even coming close to a win. He would feel like he was shot after such weight loss. After so many years of being over 200 pounds, he will not feel right or energetic in the ring.
Look at Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao. That weight loss killed De La Hoya before he ever entered the ring. Toney will not be able to lose that weight and perform. I understand that he is looking for a Payday, but this would be a dangerous fight for him.
He likes to talk, and talk trash. But with his latest opponents, he could do that and expect a win. Fres Oquendo, Hasim Rahman, Danny Batchelder, Dominick Guinn, John Ruiz, are terrible and a given win for Toney.
However, I went to the Toney vs. Batchelder, and Toney totally stole that decision. In any case, Hopkins is not a walk in the park. Toney losing in a fight like this will embarrass him, and end his career for good.
This would be a useless fight for boxing overall. I feel that Hopkins can still show us some great stuff. Toney, on the other hand, needs to tackle obesity. This would be terrible, and I am sure that Hopkins would not even consider it. I sure hope not.
