If you could change one thing about boxing what would it be?

How fighters can pick and choose their battles and hand pick their fights. You can tell from a fighters first two fights if they are going to be world champions. Why? Because they are affiliated with promoters that are going to feed them soft touches en route to a vacated belt win.
Nothing against Andre Berto, but he was pretty much handed a title belt by getting to fight Miki Rodriguez for the title.
Of course we saw the inverse with Taylor who fought Bernard Hopkins twice for his title.
Miguel Cotto's first title fight was against Lovemore N'Dou, whose big feather in his cap was losing a close fight with Sharmba Mitchell.
I don't like how there can be two champions in a division and nobody can force them to fight each other. Not even the people apparently.Comment

I would like to see one national commission oversee all of the state commissions so that what would be standard in New York to be medically fit would be the same way in Idaho or Arkansas.
I don't think it would work in my opinion because some states just are ingrained in their ways, which are to sanction mismatches and allow fighters to build records. But to have each state adhere to the same medical standards would be nice.
Oh yeah, and anything that keeps Tommy Morrison out of the ring as well.Comment

Without promoters, there are no fights. Promoters accept all of the financial liability of putting on a show, they book the venue, they negotiate television coverage, they are in charge of paying everybody and they only make money depending on the gate receipts, what they make from TV and sponsorships.
No fighter should negotiate with a promoter without a manager who is competent enough to get them their just financial due.Comment

Just 1 thing? Come on, be reasonable.
- Less weight divisions: 200+ for HW, 180 for CW, 160 for MW, 147 for WW, 135 for LW, and so on. Ditch all the 'light' and 'super' stuff. That way there'd be less of this "champ in sooooo many weight classes" hype.
- Only odd-numbered rounds in a fight, so there'd be no draws. I think?
- Less belts, obviously. But I'm not sure if I'd always want just the 1 champ... Sometimes it's fun to have 2 guys saying they're the best.Comment
