Floyd Sr was a good fighter.

He wern't bad he gave Sugar Ray Leonard a few problems, but when he attempted the shoulder roll he got beaten up. His shoulder roll wasn't that good IMO and thats what let him down against Sugar Ray Leonard, other than that i thought he done ok considering it was against a prime Sugar Ray Leonard.

His shoulder roll technique was good, the problem for him was that he had nothing to counter back with (no punching power whatsoever). Leonard walked through him whenever he wanted to. When he didn't, he was outboxed for the most part.

Floyd Sr also gave some trouble to Marlon Starling who was another defensive wizard (Winky Wright credits Starling for his defense). That was when he had already declined a lot.
