I kinda get that vibe too when I go to the espn site.

I saw him at the Marg-Mosley fight sitting in the very front in the press row. Some better(IMO) writers for boxing were further back. I dont think he does enough for the sport to warrant having the best seat. I dont even think he did the round by round for that one.
He may need some support though. Before I found this site I got my news from him and the news came along way too slowly.

i don't like dan's commentary on boxing a lot of times, but he obviously loves the sport. the guy has made a living watching and writing about boxing. everyone on this forum would take that opportunity in a heartbeat.

part of his job is to stir things up and get people talking about the boxing. espn loves that kind of stuff. why do think they have guys like skip bayless and steven a. smith on every day?

Kirkland has been on Shobox, in fact regularly while he was with Shaw.

Ortiz was on Shobox while with Top Rank.

In theory, sure Golden Boy's prospects belong on Shobox. But part of the point of Shaw's letter was that it's not merely a dumping ground for up and coming fighters, but a series where prospects are matched far tougher than on, say ESPN2 or what used to be Solo Boxeo.

Golden Boy hasn't been willing to go that route with their kids. Daniel Jacobs looks like the truth, but his next fight against an opponent with a pulse will be his first. Of the list Dan offered, Escobedo is the only one who's been matched moderately tough, but he's already past his sell date as far as prospects go.

I thought Shaw was spot on with his letter. It was the first e-mail I read yesterday morning, and hardly disagreed with any of it.

Isn't shaw in cahoots (sp) with Showtime? Maybe that's why it struck a nerve.

You're absolutely wrong. If GBP wants to showcase its young talent, let them do it on HBO. GBP already controls 70% of the sport and the last thing we need is its greedy hands on Showtime. Rafael thinks that the more GBP fighters are out there, then the more people will watch boxing, resulting in more people reading his bull****.

I agree. And not against over-matched journeymen on ****ty undercards as is so often the case.

                  Dan,

Maybe you are right, some of the writers, promoters or managers are afraid to tell you how they really feel.

Well like I told you today, "you are way off base". Since when does an ESPN employee, a boxing scribe at that, tell another network what promoter they should be using and what fighters of the promoter they should be using. Maybe you should have sent the blog to your own company first.

ESPN hasn't done any shows with many of us, or used our talent, but I know that doesn't bother you, only things you care about, are what you believe. I am starting to believe that you think you know more than anyone else in the sport, and many believe the same thing, but for you to start shilling an entire company, and their fighters, "you have lost your mind". The tenor of your blog is all wrong, it should read Golden Boy's Prospects should be on ESPN. Then Gordon Hall can see them in action, and make a case for who or who should not be on the air, but remember....Gordon wants them in tough fights. When is the last time you called Doug Loughrey and told him how to program and who to use, maybe you should walk Richard and Oscar into Dougs office, maybe they can do an autograph signing.

You need to understand that you maybe the "Heart and Soul of Boxing" to a network, but you are only one of many boxing writers in the world, and you are not the best, or the brightest, but you are entitled to your opinion. What you should not be doing is exactly what you do all the time, blogs or articles like this. If you want to promote, stop hiding, quit ESPN and join us other ass holes who are still trying to find, build, and sell our talent to the networks. But maybe you are getting commission from Golden Boy, or someone that does business with them, that I would understand.

Anyway, like you I am entitled to my opinion, except ESPN hasn't given me the platform to show what an idiot or someone who crosses the line can write. You sent your blog to a select few, but I thought that on the chance you might get a Pulitzer Prize for the blog, I thought your peers should also have the opportunity to push their favorite promoters as well, as all competitions should be fair. Anyway, on the chance that you will read this and understand that the competition for dates and fights is fierce, on the networks, you will do what you were hired to do,,,,,,,,report and write the news, don't try to make it. Remember it's one thing to talk about matches you would like to see on the air, and it''s another for you to try and play promoter and programmer, leave something for the rest of us to do.

                  Gary Shaw
Dont really like Gary, especially after the whole Corrales fiasco, BUT
I'm glad Shaw wrote this. Dan-who-cant-pronounce-his-own-last-name-correctly, talks some good points here and there but is usually more of a ***rider than anything else. Shaw is right, he should stick to reporting and analyzing, otherwise, if we wanted his opinion, he should join this and many other forums....remember, this is the guy who pushed and praised the Pac/DeLaPuta circus......and i'll admit, i was glad that DeLaPuta got his ass handed to him BUT the **** was wack to begin with and had no business being staged......

Why cant GBP showcase their prospects on HBO or HBO after-dark??? I understand where Shaw is coming from and i would be upset if i was him as well.

Golden boy promotion already has the majority of HBO's calendar, People like Top rank and shaw promotion doesnt even get dates on HBO. Thats why shaw goes and promote his show at showtime, So if GBP gets to come over to shobox how is shaw promotion suppose to eat??

I don't see what the big deal is. GBP has a lot of young talent and Shobox is the perfect place for it. Dan Rafeal was just saying that. No need for shaw to yell at him.
