  • Chad Dawson is Pondering Some Post-Tarver Targets

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Coming to a convention center or casino parking lot near you… the 2011 fight of the year.

    Chad Dawson vs. Paul Williams.

For the undisputed super middleweight championship of the world.

    Sound farfetched?

Not if you ask Dawson, a rising 26-year-old who’s not averse to the idea of dropping a few pounds to pursue bigger fights if hoped-for matches at 175 don’t work out.

“I don’t think he could come up to light heavyweight, because that’d be too much for him to put on,” he said, “but at 168 that’s a fight that could make sense someday, especially if he’s sure that he’s done everything he wants to do at welterweight.”

Williams fought in three weight classes in his final three fights of 2008 - beating Carlos Quintana at welterweight (TKO 1) in June, pummeling Andy Kolle at middleweight (TKO 1) in September and punishing Verno Phillips in between at 154 pounds (TKO 8) in November.

He’s expected to face Winky Wright in April in Los Angeles.

“I could always move up to cruiserweight but there’s really not a lot going on up there, so I’d be more likely to move down to 168 if an opportunity presented itself,” Dawson said. “I couldn’t make 160 without cutting off a leg, but fighting at 168 might actually be my best weight.” [details]

Chad Dawson is the real deal lol,Tarver is going to lose again By Ud maybe even Ko. If Williams vs Dawson Happens I think Dawson would outwork Williams to a Sd victory.

I hope for Paul Williams sake this fight Never happens. Even at 168 lbs. Chad Dawson is too big, too strong and too fast for Paul Williams. I like Paul but his people have to be careful as not to put him in a complete winless situation like this.

However considering the lack of fights out there for him, his handlers just might have to cash him out in the biggest fight possible. But hopefully that does not become the case.

Dawson shouldn't overlook Tarver, Tarver can still be dangerous.

he beat glen johnson by about 2 rounds, even w/ the 10-8 round, you could give johnson........

PW vs. Dawson would be a great fight, but those are 2 of my top 3 favorite fighters, so i'm not in a rush to see it.....i'd be too conflicted.

i'm a little upset to hear him wanting to retire at 30 tho......not sure how many BIG fights he'll be able to get in 2 1/2 years tho, if he wants to be p4p #1.....

you are seriously underestimating PW......the fight doesn't have to happen tomorrow, but a year and a half or so, PW should be bale to put on the weight right.......he's built to carry that kind of weight anyways.....

PW also can punch too, and dawson has a suspect chin.......

it'd be a great fight, i just like both fighters, so i'd rather see them beat up on other fighters

Dawson needs to step up to cruiser and grab Adameks belt.

I like how Dawsons willing to take on the biggest fights at 26 years of age.

Its a credit to him as a fighter.
