..Most Successful Move Up In Weight...

What move up in weight do you think is the most successful? The furthest, or the most meaningful.

Also, who do you think could challenge that from todays standards?

Well obviously Henry Armstrong gets this vote from the past era. Today it's pacquaio, who not only manages to keep most of his speed, he still remains a little bit of pop to his punches too for a high weight. That and Pacquiao's defense and right hand has also gotten better.

Trindad was also able to sucessfully move up to Middleweight too and reamin a ****load of his power.

      Duran.

Pacman for all his skills and resume doesn't have a truely great victory outside feather/superfeather.

I think Robinson deserves a mention, 5 time middleweight champion after vacating the welterweight crown.

Very true, about Trinidad. People underrate his move up in weight because he happened to get stopped by the best Middleweight of the last ten years. Like that's such a devasting upset.

He did pretty well for himself.

If Ivan Calderon could do well for 112, I think he'd be considered as well. Just because I happen to think that it's harder to move up from the smaller weight divisions.

Had 'Sugar' Ray Robinson been fighting in modern times, that Joey Maxim fight would have been a blow out. And a fighter starting out at 135, at Lightweight would have been the true Light-Heavyweight championship. Even losing that fight, still is when you think about the circumstances. He did it all while staying under the Middleweight limit, to begin with.

For today, I say it's Pac-Man, no doubt.

Also credible options: Floyd Mayweather, James Toney, Roy Jones.

Recently Guillermo Jones went up from being a title contender at 147-154 to a title holder at cruiserweight.

Dingaan Thobela was a 2-time lightweight champion in the early 1990's who won a super middleweight title in 2000 by KO'ing Glenn Catley in the 12th round after being outpointed in most of the rounds.

Vinny Pazienza was a LW title holder who went onto become a LMW title holder and a super middleweight title contender.

Jimmy Ellis was an average middleweight contender who went onto become a heavyweight title holder.

Jimmy McLarnin defeated flyweight champion Pancho Villa in 1925 and KO'd welterweight champion Young Corbett III in the first round in 1933.

Ezzard Charles was a great middleweight and light heavyweight who did not receive a title shot until he went up to the heavyweight division.

James Toney a middleweight/super middleweight title holder in the early 1990's, a cruiserweight/heavyweight title holder in 2003-2005.

Sam Langford fought world champions from the lightweight division (Joe Gans) all the way up to the heavyweight division (Jack Johnson) although he never received an official title shot himself.

Also, Paull Williams has a chance. Starting out at Welterweight, I can see him finishing his career at or around 168. That could be a pretty good transition.
