The boxing world mourns as former heavyweight champion Ingemar Johansson (September 22, 1932 - January 30, 2009) passed away on Friday. Johansson became famous when he stepped in the ring on June 26, 1959 as a 5-1 underdog to knock Floyd Patterson out for the heavyweight title. Ingemar Johannson will almost be etched in my boxing memory because of his three great fights with Patterson. The third fight IMO was the most exciting, they traded knockdowns like most traded jabs. R.I.P. one of boxing's true good guys has passed on.
