Little tip... multi divisions are only recent in many cases

As extraordinary as it may seem, it's actually easier for fighters to become multi-weight world champions than it was for fighters of yesteryear because many of those divisions didn't even exist then.

The first title match in Superflyweight was in 1980... Superbantamweight had become disused for over forty years before being revived in the late 70s, the same with Junior Flyweight. Light Middle wasn't around until the 1960s, Supermiddle and Cruiser even longer.

This **** should be obvious and go without saying, but reading this site ......... I guess not.

You can factor in the different weight divisions in only one way.

If you have six different division titles, that mans you have won 6 title fights and that you have beaten 6 different champions or won 6 different titles.

Otherwise, fighters from the 70's and back are at a huge disadvantage.

Exactly, that's my point. You've got fanboys on here that think boxing started in 1984 and use multi-division titles as a way of saying that boxers today are better than their forbears.

Very true. The dumbest thing to use as a measuring tool, right up there with the 'triangular theory'.

          Yep.

Though the other day I was shocked to see a boxer getting praise for grabbing "the best belt, the WBC" in all divisions. The fact that most of the divisions the guy had been through saw paper champs with the WBC and not THE champion of the division seemed to allude him.

Hey, if your favorite fighter says the WBC is the best belt, you have to believe him. Otherwise, he loses credibility.

Not that he would lose it by claiming that the WBC is worth respecting in the first place. No........................ Not at all.
