Who Will Be Next In the IBF 140 Lb. Sweepstakes?

By Jake Donovan - If ever there was a time where a case could be made in favor of a return to one champion per division, you needn’t look any further than the junior welterweight division. [details]

The belts may be fractured, but the division isn't. Hatton is the legitimate champion, defeating Tszyu who possessed all the belts at one point.

The IBF should give Hatton the belt, that was a ***** ass move stripping Paulie just before the fight.

Paulie should try to get a fight for it. He gave it up to fight Hatton, so he should still be 1 of the top 2 challengers after Herman and Urango.

Unifying all the ABC belts is fun and all, but nobody can actually hold on to them. A good example is Pavlik, he would hold a linear claim to all four belts, but along the way people cant keep up with all of the mandatories and sanctioning fees.

The IBF are missing an opportunity by not awarding hatton the title. Who cares about Ngoudjo? no ****er.

I’d like to see Paulie dust off and get back in the ring ASAP. Ok, he can’t punch, but he can take one and his personality and heart are really good for boxing.

I’m definitely a fan of Paulie, I think he’s a great kid and deserves another crack at it.

wait a mthfkin minute, this is what they suppose to do! Fruk chasing big sanctioning fees! The best should be crowned the champion and defend against the best in order of their ranking not their fanbase! The IBF doesn't sellout and gets criticized, WTF. This is when you get those shady decisions and on the whim changes to written guidelines that favor the popular but not necessarily best champions. Good job IBF! Now go and seek some real talent to hold your belts! GTFO!

I agree with this post 100%. As a champion, you are accepting the obligation to fight the #1 mandatory, and whether that guy sells tickets or not is irrelevant. When you dump that obligation in search of a payday, then you should be stripped of that title. And the IBF should be commended for that, not criticized. Otherwise, they would be just like the WBC, where as long as you are paying big sanctioning fees, you never get stripped even if you dont do a mando for 3 years.
