What does it take to be a judge?

For some reason I always wanted to know. I think that most people on this forum would do a better job than most of these PAID OFFICIALS. Does any body have any information? Who is the most honest judge in your opinion? Who is the most dishonest judges in your opinion? There are alot of examples in bad scoring and is it just me but is a requirement you must be over 60 and blind?
