Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has denied a claim made on the air by HBO announcer Larry Merchant that Oscar De La Hoya was not in attendance at Saturday’s clash between Sugar Shane Mosley and Antonio Margarito because he was paid $5 million by a T-shirt company to instead attend an MMA event. Schaefer reportedly said Oscar “didn’t make a penny.” Merchant, who celebrates his 78th birthday on February 11th, recently re-upped with HBO for another two years.
