Now i dont wanna start another UK vs USA argument like earlier today. But how come america didnt have many people representing them in boxing. I only really noticed it this year. Do you always not enter many boxers or is it because you have very few up and coming fighters i think you only won 1 bronze (could be mistaken). Just wondering since you represent all the other sports well just not boxing (or you do represent well its just they dont get far, i tend to only pay attention when all our brit boxers reach the semis or higher).

It's not a case of a country choosing not to enter boxers. There are only 28 places in each division (16 for HW and SHW) and they are split up into regions, with a maximum of six (3 at HW, SHW) coming from the Americas - and no more than one for each nation in each division. The end result can get a bit silly as a result; there were 10 (out of a possible 12) Moroccans, for example and another 10 from that great boxing powerhouse Kazakhstan (can anyone name a pro from there?!). The US sent 8 and the UK 7.
As to medals; the scoring and judging is such a farce these days the result is almost a lottery.Last edited by The_Visitation; 01-27-2009, 01:09 PM.Comment

Alot of people think this system came about as a result of Roy's fight in Seoul, but that was not the case, as it was changed due more to what happened at the previous Olympics in Los Angeles (with the idea coming from the American head of the AIBA, Colonel Don Hull). In fact, Roy's fight was irrelevant to why it was changed, as the new system was in place and already announced before Roy stepped into the ring for that gold medal bout in '88.Comment
