mayweather is one of my fav boxers because his skills are crazy, but i agree with others here that he was messing up the sport. the sport crowned him the "best fighter in the world" the p4p best and all that good stuff, but thruthfully he never proved himself with any real WW. if he was at 140 it would be a different story, but he is listed as a welterweight(147) aka the best division in boxing. he picked opponents like baldomir(who at the time had alot of hype on him and emanuel steward did think floyd was gonna lose)but he wouldve gained more respect and legacy points vs margarito.he goes vs de la hoya(for the money of course,oscar is way past his prime but did outweigh floyd by 10 pounds)but he couldve gained more respect and legacy points vs cotto.then he goes vs hatton(who is NOT a welterweight,but an all-out fighter with pleny heart,and the ref didnt allow him to execute his game plan which was inside fighting,not an excuse just the truth)but he couldve gained more respect and legacy points vs mosley.


i think the sport is better bcause the "P4P" king manny pacquiao gives ANYONE a shot at the throne.

Man that February 14 card is off the charts. Hopefully people come out and watch it. Every fight is compelling in some way.

I think the prices is what really got the place packed. I know boxing fans only watched on tv because of prices but this was a very well priced and affordable fight. This is all boxing needs was affordable prices and the place will be jam packed and will gain back all of the attention boxing deserves. Its truly the greatest spectator sport in my opinion.

it was bound to be a good fight, by the styles if the fighters, AND the location was nice too.

being that both fighters have roots in the southern cali area, the staples center was more logical than vegas....but yea, great great prices too.

Is it a coinsidence that boxing got better once Mayweather left?
welterweight is the best division in the sport right now.. why?
because it's packed with great talented fighters who aren't AFRAID to fight each other.

You also have Manny Pacquiao dominating the pound 4 pound lists and the lower weight classes.. You have a bunch of hot young prospects coming on up too!

you are ridiculous. hey, do you expect manny pacquiao to fight every welterweight there is? no. so why floyd? have you seen floyd live? did you know he's a very small man? pac man is doing the same floyd and every great fighter did in the past: fight bigger men. that's what happens to you if you are good, eventually you end up fighting bigger guys. BUT YOU'D HAVE TO BE ****** to keep fighting much bigger men for the rest of your career specially if you are a naturally small man. floyd is not paul williams, margarito or oscar de la hoya, he was not a middleweight draining water to make 147. IN FACT HE NEVER RE-HYDRATED FOR ANY FIGHT. you are just kids or ******s who have not grown enough to understand boxing. and about the topic, boxing is far from being well, in fact almost all boxing promoters including shaw, are as dirty as you can get. mosley was supposed to lose, by old age because rest assured, prime Mosley would literally KILL poor margarito. both margarito and cotto are very limited fighters in a way or another. berto is also a very limited fighter, i haven't seen enough of clottey yet. they keep good young fighters waiting and they have to move up to fight fights like williams and develop padded records in limited fighters so they can sell a star career to a rich promoter who will sell it to his most popular fighter. that's how it works. they will only risk the golden chicken with great fighters if their are Mosley old the very least. the last attempt at this was Katsidis. failed, too limited but a bigger talent would have make it. Few fighters though fully deserve our respect and Mayweather and Pacquiao are among them. Mosley and Hopkins too.
