Are We Finally Getting It Right in Boxing?

By Jake Donovan - From the moment the paid attendance for Saturday night's boxing event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles was announced, the forthcoming responses were so predictable that you could've finished everyone's sentences for them. [details]

Is it a coinsidence that boxing got better once Mayweather left?
welterweight is the best division in the sport right now.. why?
because it's packed with great talented fighters who aren't AFRAID to fight each other.

You also have Manny Pacquiao dominating the pound 4 pound lists and the lower weight classes.. You have a bunch of hot young prospects coming on up too!

if boxing continues the way it is going then it will be back to its place at the top when it was one, if not the most popular sport in america besides baseball.

The only people saying boxing is dead are those clowns that are hyped up over MMA and buy into what MMA represents. Those MMA advocates try to push MMA as if it will overtake boxing, but seriously, boxing has been around for YEARS, and their is history and even GREAT fighters in the sport which will forever remembered. Mixed Martial Arts, come on now. Its called Martial Arts. Now they throw all aspects of fighting including Boxing and tag it Mixed Martial Arts. Im not knocking on the creators of it cause simply people will pay to see violence and in the world we live in, if it dont make dollars it dont make sense. All im saying is quit comparing it to boxing and quit saying its overtaking boxing.

With all that off my chest,I was actually surprised with the HUGE Staples Center turnout, 20k+ people DAMN, they probably had people hanging next to the Lakers banners as well. That was a good thing to hear that Staples center was packed and good to know that boxing is having a good start to the new year. The next thing to do is push the marketing down everyones throats to hype up all the big events.

You can't tell me without a straight face that Mayweather vs. Mosley, or Mayweather vs Pac wouldn't be ****ing HUGE right now, Sin.
These aren't "save boxing" fights. No one fight is. But these would be HUGE.

They just gotta' price it so the majority of folks don't have to go into hock to attend a live, high profile event. Everybody loves a good scrap...

they would.. put Mayweather never fought any of the best opposition in the welterweight division and that's why he was ****ing **** up is what I am saying.
things are a lot more exciting without him **** blocking the division and only fighting once a year..
It would be good for boxing if he fought the best but the fact is he didn't.

At least 10,000 in MSG? I thought Cotto easily sells that place out with the Puerto Rican fans in New York. Boxing is doing really good, but I wouldn't say it is "back" until it's on network tv.
