Margarito clearly looked off going into the ring against Mosley. I personally feel that Tony and his camp knew he was not ready for this fight. Hence, the hardened gauze. A final and Drastic effort to give himself the best opportunity to win.
But the gauze had previous blood stains, indicating that they had most likely been used before. The blood was probably from his own knuckles, and it makes sense to reuse that very pad because it would have probably already been shaped to his knuckles. Lucky wraps perhaps?
