I would say that depends on the criteria one uses to make that kind of determination...One thing is for certain, this fight definately enhances Mosely's legacy...I'm not so sure that it elevates him to alltime great status though...
I know I've seen quite a few people question Mosely's place in boxing history...They will point to his win over DLH as his only substantial achievement, forgetting him dominance at 135 and the fact that he has held titles at three different weight classes...He also was able to do something that both Ricky Hatton and Andre Berto were not able to do and thats beat Luis Collazo convincingly...
Definitely he is. I don't even think it takes a lot of evaluation. If anyone keeps up with boxing they'll knew he is one of the ATG in boxing. Even before the Margarito win he was an ATG. One of the greatest boxers in the history of boxing...
I don't think he is quite yet. He is a damned good fighter and certainly one of the 15-20 best overall boxers in the last 20 years, but I'm not sure if I can elevate him to that level.
Can you really say he's one of the 5-10 greatest at any weight class he has participated in? One could argue Lightweight, but his work there left a lot to be desired. Skill-wise he was right up there with the some of the best who have fought in that division, but he really didn't beat a worthy opponent. Phillip Holliday? John Molina and James Leija were good 130 pound champions, but they were outmatched as Lightweights.
His best overall win to this day is still Oscar De La Hoya. After that you have Margarito and John Molina. I don't know if his best wins stack up with some of his contemporaries quality wins. I'd have to go through the list.
His quality of opposition above Lightweight is certainly high. He faced Oscar, Wright, Forrest, Cotto and Margarito. All of them were real threats when he fought them. He went out of his way to fight Wright when he didn't necessarily have to.
The best part about Mosley is that he came back from mediocrity to give special performances on a couple of occasions. His win over Collazo was impressive, as was the recent demolition of Margarito. I mean that stretch from Forrest to Wright was just brutal, but he found a way to rebound and he pulled his career back up to the championship level.
