The Resto-Collins fight was worse because not only did Resto use plastered handwraps, Panama Lewis had also taken off the padding from his gloves which made Resto's fists hard as rocks.

That fight was very brutal and Collins suffered permanent damage which ended his career, Cotto was bleeding badly but aside from his cuts he suffered no injuries.

I do think that Cotto's cuts and bleeding affected the way the fight went, perhaps Margarito wouldn't have done as much damage to his face so quickly if he hadn't used plastered gloves.

imo boxing needs to have brain scans on fighters to make sure they are not going to suffer long term damager. this is just another reason why promoters and networks should look to regularly examine the brains and skulls of the fighters and test their cognitve skills and motor abilties to make sure there is no long term damage.

a good MRI/Catscan can cost up to $20,000. What most average boxers make on their entire fight. It's pretty much cost prohibitive to do this for anyone but the biggest named boxers who make millions.

Resto's use of plastered handwraps actually wasn't known until he admitted it just a year or two ago in an interview. Resto and Lewis went to prison solely because they had taken the padding off the gloves.
