I think that it would be criminal negligence, and he should've then went to jail if it happened. So now at the very least I feel Margarito should be suspended from boxing and sued at the least.

Lets look back at Cotto against Margarito. He looked in terrible shape and his face look unreasonably, grotesquely battered. I wouldn't be surprised if Margie plastered his hands more in that fight. And I'm not stopping there. I bet that this goes on widespread in boxing, if you go that far you could look at Julio Cesar Chavez against Meldrick Taylor.... guys like JLC and Margarito have underaverage speed, and don't have THAT much power, so when you look at the effectiveness of Marg's punches against Cotto, and those against Mosley, the difference is night and day.

It would be a charge of at least manslaughter, possibly even murder as he knew he had a rock hard substance in his gloves and still proceeded to punch someone in the face as hard as he could.
