De La Hoya ditches boxing and his partners for MMA?

Dan Rafeal wrote this on ESPN

Two other items of note: I emailed Mosley's wife, Jin Mosley, to ask her if she would be at the fight Saturday night, and she said she wouldn't. The marital problems between her and Shane are that serious. Oscar De La Hoya won't be at the fight either, which I find unconscionable. In fact, De La Hoya has not done anything to help promote the fight Saturday night, even though his company is co-promoting it. De La Hoya didn't appear at the news conference or the weigh-in either. Instead, he has been a few miles away in Anaheim promoting the MMA event Golden Boy is co-promoting Saturday night. I understand he has a business commitment to the MMA show, but for him to blow off 100 percent the boxing event stinks -- especially when he is a Los Angeles icon; it's the first big fight of 2009; it features Mosley (a company partner) and takes place at Staples Center, the city's premier arena, which happens to have a De La Hoya statue out front. Missing the fight in favor of an MMA event is, at least symbolically, a sin.

It's true I have'nt heard **** from Oscar. Tonights fight has barely been promoted. No Countdown show, whats up with that? Why would they schedule this MMA event on the same night?

Well, it is his first MMA event so I gotta say its a smart move. He knows he will make big time money always off boxing. He wants to build a name in MMA. I say f Oscar. Man is he a greedy pig.

That's because Hopkins is promoting the fight.

because boxing is truly dying. because people prefer seeing two prime fighters go at each other in a sport which has one belt instead of seeing Margarito kick old Mosley for 11 rounds or maybe 12 rounds in a fight that's only a tuneup for another fight with Cotto, with no belts at stake cept for Margarito's which won't decide anything and is only one of 4 major bets. Oscar has a nose for business and as the snake he is, he's leaving his partners behind for mma.
