    Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight off

    By Marc Anthony Reyes
    08/15/2008

    MANILA, PhilippinesIt’s off.

The mega-fight between boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya and Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao fizzled out after both camps failed to agree on the sharing of the HBO pay-per-view yields which experts said could reach an astounding $100 million.

The negotiations that started on a bright note last week bogged down Thursday after neither camp budged from their previous positions on the revenue split, according to the ESPN website Thursday.

The reports said De La Hoya initially wanted a 70-30 share of the PPV buys up to a certain amount and then an 80-20 deal in the excess of that amount. Later, reports said De La Hoya wanted it 70-30 for all buys.

Pacquiao stopped moving at 60-40 in favor of the Golden Boy.

“It is a bit mind-boggling for me that [Manny] would have to fight three or four times to make what he could make to fight Oscar. I hope Manny has been given all the information by his people,” GBP CEO Richard Schaefer was quoted as saying.

Pacquiao reportedly pocketed $5 million from his June fight against David Diaz which he won to become the new WBC lightweight champion.

Top Rank boss Bob Arum, who represents Pacquiao, said: “The deal we were working on was a lot of money for both guys. The question is what is a fair split? I thought somewhere between 30 and 40 percent for Manny was fair.”

Arum said Pacquiao may defend his WBC lightweight crown against top junior lightweight Humberto Soto.

Theres only 20 other threads about this, why not make another.

Now Pac-man can fire Arum, and refuse to do business with toprank or GBP so he can fight Chris John in front of 100,000 people and they can make $20,000 each.

His legacy ruined by not being able control his ego remembered not for the great fights and HoF'er he beat but for being a douchebag when he got to the top and blew it.

I'm sure that would make Fearless_Bong a happy happy pachugger.

Sorry ****head I didn't see any threads regarding how many times the pacquiao/oscar de la hoya fight was canceled, only for it to later happen threads, and how that is relevant to what is happening now with Hatton, since this is what is called negotiating. Sorry so sorry.

ummm...that's an article about DLH-PAC...i think natas is trying to make a point about 'posturing' during negotiations...when they say 'its off' they dont really mean it

Reading comprehension isn't the strong suit of your average NSB poster.

For people who are too ****** to realize: he's posting this to make a point that there was a time that ODLH-Pac was said to be off and it still went through, so claiming that Pac-Hatton is now 100% off is jumping the gun.

I don't think it's jumping the gun. Arum and people have said its off. This article has no quote saying from anyone.

After 900 hatton vs pac-man threads in the last 3 weeks you'll forgive me for being snow-blind.

                  Appologies.

It's really genuinely off though guy's, I think Bob Arum is presently about to rip his moneymaker a new arsehole for the last 3 weeks.

It's an old article mate.. BTW Hatton don't deserved 50-50 cut...Hatton beat Malinaggi after gettin whooped by Mayweather... Pacquaio has beaten everybody under the sun... Oscar De La Hoya, David Diaz, Juan Manuel Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera,Erik Morales, and there’s plenty more... If you go through Hatton’s resume and see if you can compare to Pac... It's not even close and it’s actually pretty funny when you take a look at it..... Hatton’s resume is filled with absolute nobodies.... Hatton knows he doesn’t deserve to be in the ring with Pacquaio and yet he still tries to put himself as the equal cut... But whatever lets get this thing going so Fatton can move on to get Ko’d by Marquez next. The American KO’d Hatton, the Filipino is gonna KO Hatton And all that’s left is a Mexican and that should be Marquez and Mexican would KO Hatton soon... And props to the Pacquaio team for being the real champs and rising above the greed of Hatton even though the money would’ve been well needed in the Philippines....
