I'm glad you are so offended by Ricardo Lopez though. Did he beat up your mom?
    How am I offended?

I brought up his level of opposition and that he struggled against the best fighters he faced. He could've moved up a couple of pounds in weight to face bigger names such as Carbajal and Gonzales but didn't, which is why no one considers him the greatest.

Now I'm not saying he isn't a great fighter but if you call Lopez the greatest you better back that statement up with a legit argument (I'm talking about the thread starter). It shouldn't be up to others to prove him wrong.

If you think Lopez fought C+ fighters you need to educate yourself on the lower weight classes.

Rosendo Alvarez alone is a better win than anyone Floyd has on his ledger.

Who says Carbajal or Gonzales were at all interested in fighting him? That is like knocking Ivan Calderon for not being able to get fights with the big names of his era. We are actively watching EVERYONE avoid him. The guy can't get a big fight to save his life.

In 10 years time I am sure people are going to say Calderon isn't great because he didn't fight the big names.

What about Nicolino Locche? Is he any less great because he doesn't have a resume packed full of the best 140lb fighters in the world?

Some times you need to accept that some fighters are too good for their contemporaries to want to fight when they can just fight each other, especially at the lower weight classes where there is much less financial incentive to take on a fighter that you have a very small chance of beating.

There are no name fighters around Calderon's weight classes though.

Locche did fight the best lightweights and light welterweights such as Carlos Ortiz and Ismael Laguna (name fighters at the time) and while he did not win those bouts (which were draws), he got people's respect for trying.

I wouldn't say that Lopez ducked anyone but the fact that those potential big fights did not happen hurts his resume. He was content on defending his WBC belt in the 105 lb weight class and didn't move up to 108 until later in his career.

A fight against Carbajal was actually being planned in 1997 but Carbajal went onto lose his next fight. Neither of them were at their peak form at the time however.
