On paper, Luis would be pronounced "Lou-eese" as others have noted. But it also depends on the person. My nephew's name is Luis, but he (and more so his moms/my sister-in-law) always insisted it be pronounced the American way - Louis (or Lou-eee as a nickname).

Everyone that knows Collazo calls him Lou-eee. The only ones I know who call him Lou-eese are those meeting him/seeing his name for the first time.

Great piece by Lyle. I'm with him on always being a Papa fan (especially on Giants games), but he was terrible on Saturday. In fact, he's been **** ever since he came back from the Olympics. It took a while for him to get the atrocity of Olympic scoring out of his system as he took it out on the pro game. But for whatever reason, he still hasn't gotten his groove back.

the knockdown reference was annoying but this guy is nitpicking on the name thing. 99% of latinos will refer to him as Luis rather than Lou-ee. NOw If he had called Collazo "Larry", then you have a point otherwise your just filling space for a deadline. The Cintron v Martinez fight is interesting. Between the two they have only 3 defeats and all to the same man (AM). I think they are fairly even except in punching power which Cintron has the edge. In saying that Cintron has not looked as powerful since his surgery before the first Margarito fight but looks strong enough to beat pretty much anyone not named Margarito first name Tony. Cintron should be able to pull out a Victory and the 154 pound title against Martinez so lets see if he stays at the divison with a few rising stars like Kirkland and Angulo or goes back to the very talented but crowded welterweight division. Campbell is in for a hell of a rude awakeing if he thinks he will overwhelm Ali Funeka and the Forty thieves. Will be a good match and probably will be the end of Campbell reign as Champion. On paper Funeka looks more impressive but they fight on TV and not on paper so lets wait and see. By the way i understand Campbell did beat the man (diaz) but calling him undisputed, like he went out and won those titles like Diaz did, is crazy and reminds me of when Douglas was called undisputed after his fight with TYson. By the way how many defenses did Douglas have of that title. lets hope Campbell is not Douglas

This seems more like nitpicking to me. I didn't have a problem nor do I ever with Papa's commentating. In fact I think I'm one of the few guys who likes the entire HBO crew of commentators, especially Max as he's fresh and straight to the point.

Very good article, good to see a willingness to criticise HBO or anything equally as big. On a professional broadcast dis information once happens, but continuously is un acceptable and others also do have a responsibility to feed the viewers the correct info, not stay quiet due to unknown reasons.

You're an idiot bro, Luis is pronounced Loo-eese. He is latino and thats how it is correctly pronounced.....We dont get down with french pronunciations fool. Next time you want to criticize, why dont you ask someone with knowledge of the name....Too many times idiots pronounce Latino names incorrectly in every facet of major professional sports, i'm glad to see Papa doing it right!!!!

Who really cares what Papa called him. Louie as he was being called by his corner and fans is what I call him too. He is from Brooklyn and used to box on the reg at Gleasons Gym.

As for the article I was going to post something about papa on here before I saw this thread. Yes he was very annoying all night long. he looked confused a few times during the broad cast. The fact he was calling the Round 1 Knock Down was driving me crazy and I was telling my wife as we were watching broad cast how annoying it was.

There were a fe comments during the show that got under my skin. As did the Reff when he took a point from Berto for holding. Papa and Lewis made a point if he was excessively holding for no apparent reaon then fine warn him and penalize him. But he was hurt in round 1 or I truely do not think he would have been holding. Berto has no history of holding excessivley. To which Max replied unfortunately. This meaning that holding is unfortunately a part of boxing. Well max when you get in close and throw pu7nches sometimes you end up grappling either you punch to get out or the reff pulls you apart. now when one boxer throws punches and the other reaches out and grabs him inteionally that my friend is the knind of clinching that is unfortunate.

Either way I don't think berto should have been penalized a point. Also don't think Max's comment was warranted. I think papa and Lewis were right in what they said. As for the ariticle papa wes truly annoying with the knockdown comment. Besides that I didnt see anything or hear anything else that would warrant him getting fired or make me wanna never watch a program he does. All in all I think he had a off night and one of his co commentators should have picked him up and corrected him in a suttle way....Lefty

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isnt the "LL" in spanish pronounced like a "Y"? Ive always wondered this because the very first time I saw Collazo fight it bugged me right away, I kept waiting for someone to correct him but noone ever has. They all pronounce the L in his name when it should really be pronounced like a Y. Right?
