Betting obviously has a major factor in boxing. I would say football and boxing, aside from horses, are the two distinct sport where people bet copious amounts of money.
That's why there's so much money in the fight game, because of the betting. You think that boxers bet on themselves? Obviously it' illegal for them to do that, but that's beside the point. How many boxers out there do you think bet on themselves. I know Tyson probably bet a bundle on himself, which might contribute to him not having any money.
I would think that Hopkins and Pacquiao are other fighter who bet on themselves. If you turn the pages back to the tough boxing days of the 30's, it might have been uncommon not to bet on yourself.
