Why are fighters more prone to getting KD in the early rounds?

Is it nerves? Not being warmed up? As a long time fan Ive seen this many times, ie Calzaghe KD vs Jones and BHOP and tonight Berto getting stunned early (NOT a KD but still) Collazo going down vs Hatton.. Marquez vs Pac.

all of the above and also sometimes it takes a bit to adjust to getting hit. You're not used to getting hit hard in the face so sometimes that initial big punch is a bit of a shocker.
