    My Berto-Collazo Thoughts!!!

The fight went just as I expected. I always argue with people about the Hatton-Collazo fight. I dont argue over who won but I always get upset with people when they try to downgrade Hatton over that fight. Collazo is a beast. I always said, who cares if Hatton struggled with him. People act like Collazo is a bum. Then some said that Hatton just didnt belong at WW or was too fight and I said that was garbage. I said he had trouble because Collazo is the biggest/best or 2nd best guy he ever fought before Floyd. I dont care how he won, a win is a good win against Collazo.

I also made many threads on here about how Berto's people are crazy for putting him in with Collazo in his 1st big fight. No way you put a young inexperienced kid in with a crafty vetran Southpaw who has had a few big fights. Southpaws are too hard to fight and no way you risk that in a young guys 1st big match. I dont care if he was the mandatory, you take a pass even if it means losing the title. People still dont give Southpaws a big enough advantage in boxing. Fans try to act like there regular fighters but there not. Its a huge advantage to be a Southpaw in boxing.

As for the fight itself, I thought Poppa was an idiot for keep saying that there was a knock down in round 1. There wasnt. I scored the fight exactly like Lederman "except" I gave round 7 to Berto where he didnt. That means that I scored it 6 rounds to 6. I dont know how Lederman could give Collazo round 7. He clearly took both round 7 & 8 off. He didnt hardly throw one single punch in either round. Therefore I had Collazo winning 114-113 and I thought it was mostly pretty clear.

I wouldve gave the win to Collazo, "HOWEVER" In my own mind I wouldnt have gave Berto a loss because I thought that the point deduction was downright horrible for so many reasons. 1st of all there is No way you take away a point in a big fight like this unless it was a horrible foul. 2nd, he took the point away super early in the fight and how much could he have been holding that early? 3rd is I didnt think the holding was anything abnormal and some of it was both ways. That also changed how the fight played out later because you could tell there were times later when Berto was dead tired and he only halfway held because he was scared a point was going to get takened which allowed Collazo to keep shoe shining him. 4th, and most of all is that people dont even realize that the holding started in round 1 "after Collazo hit him with that good punch". Thats when the ref started warning him. The idiot ref acted like he never saw a boxing match before. Nearly everyone holds when they get hurt or into serious trouble. He shouldnt have been giving any warnings at that point. It was obvious that Berto was only holding because he had got stunned at that time but the ref warned him and he counted that as some of his warning when he took the penalty which I thought was bush league. Overall though it was a great fight and a great way to kick off 09. Berto will be fine since he got the win and I hope Collazo gets another shot with one of the other WW's.

I dont think the point deduction was wrong, Berto is the champ. He should show it and win by fighting not holding because he couldnt deal with Collazo. I though the deduction was fair he was clearly warned and was not hurt but yet he kept holding.

BTW, Collazo has always been one of my favorites because he is a pure boxer and I think nearly all of fans & media are biased against pure boxers nowdays. I also like Berto alot and I actually have more respect for his skills after this fight then I did before. The kid has a great head on his shoulders and you dont see that much these days in boxing from the young guys. When Collazo was killing him on the inside, he switched up and started boxing from the outside and evened up the fight. I didnt even hear his corner tell him to do that. Its like he figured it out on his own. I also like how real his dad was during the fight. He wasnt being fake like alot of guys do. He was telling his son that he was down, he needed a KO, and that he has to fight like a champion. Later in the fight they were still wandering why Berto wasnt boxing from the outside more but he was dead tired by that point. He couldnt do it. I never trusted his footwork before this fight but he showed me alot tonight. Kid has a ton of heart

I scored it 114-113 for Collazo like you but understand how Berto could have won the fight. His punches were probably a lot louder than Collazo's, which even looked weak on the TV. The only conclusion I have is that a rematch needs to happen

I dont even think he really held though. He held in the 1st round when he got buzzed but after that it just looked like regular clinching stuff that you see a million times. Trust me, Im one of those guys who hates holding. I hate watching Ruiz and what Hatton & Hopkins have turned into. This was nothing like that to me and those guys hardly ever get a warning, let alone a point deduction after the first couple of rounds

yeah, I was wondering about that too. In person Berto's stuff probably looked really explosive. Maybe kind of like Oscar-Mosley 2 when most at home thought Oscar won and most at the fight thought Berto won. 116-111 was crazy though. Thats basically saying that Berto won 9 rounds to 3.

No one will disagree with that. I cant see any margin of victory greater than 1 rd on either side...it was an amazing fight
