People try to take away from Schmeling's performance with excuses (as always) but none of them came from Joe Louis' mouth, he gave Schmeling full credit.
I could make up a hundred excuses about Schmeling being old, Schmeling being injured, Schmeling being under pressure from the ****s, etc.
Schmeling fought a great fight the first time, Louis fought a great fight the second time. Louis had the better overall career but on one night he was bested by Max Schmeling in decisive fashion, a loss he avenged in the rematch.Comment

I give so much credit to Schmeling he really gave the performance of his life beating Louis, but that was a very under trained and ill prepraed Joe Louis, who for most of the entire camp had been playing golf and partying.
Probaly them words really got him motivated and inspired him to do it.Comment

Yeah i agree, you have to say that was Schmeling night and he was the better man, but it wasn't a 100% percent Louis in that ring on 1936-06-19, Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York, United States. And i do onestly belive if it would of been a 100% trained Joe Louis we may have got the second fight outcome in the first fight, but hey i don't take nothing away from Max and yes we could make excuses, but just making my point about the fight.People try to take away from Schmeling's performance with excuses (as always) but none of them came from Joe Louis' mouth, he gave Schmeling full credit.
