Alexander Povetkin vs Jason Estrada possible for April 4

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Povetkin is fully recovered from his injury and is looking to return to the ring against Olympian Jason Estrada. Here's the article:

Now that heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (16-0, 12 KOs) has recovered from the foot injury that cost him a December title shot against Wladimir Klitschko, he's ready to return. He remains the mandatory challenger for Klitschko, but since the deadline for that bout has been pushed back until September, Povetkin will stay busy April 4. Although no deal has been finalized, Povetkin is in talks with American Jason Estrada (15-1, 3 KOs). They both were heralded amateurs and competed in the 2004 Olympics, where Povetkin won gold for Russia.

Question: If Povetkin loses this fight, does it put his mandatory title shot against Klitschko in jeopardy? I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Estrada pulled a mini upset here...

Yes, if Estrada defeats Povetkin, he will become Wlad's mandatory.

But I have some doubt as to whether the fight will happen. Estrada's handlers may not want him to face Povetkin at this point in his career.

If it does, Povetkin will put a good beating on him.

Estrada will do it I bet. He is always talkin bout everybody is duckin him and he writes letters to Kingpin Johnson and Arreola sayin that they are jokes and that they should fight him a real american heavy. This fight most likely won't end in a KO, Chambers was able to handle Povetkin soundly for the first few rounds but Big Six don't compare to Fast Eddie. I'd say Povetkin by UD with Estrada gettin some hard punches in, I'm bettin that Povetkin turns out to be a Lyakhovich.

Interesting matchup.

Estrada is a classy boxer with fast hands and zero power.

Povetkin is a grinder with minimal power himself.

If Estrada is legit he will be able to outbox and outmaneuver Povetkin and win the early rounds the same way Eddie Chambers did.

I just don't see him making it through 10-12 rounds without getting ground down by Povetkin. Expect Estrada to put up a better than expected effort and to get stopped late in a very close fight.

I hope Estrada takes this fight; it's a huge opportunity to break through and get himself into the mix. Estrada's very technical and fundamentally sound but is less than inspiring at times. If he was committed to 'sitting down' on his punches, increasing his work rate, and coming in, in tip top shape, he could easily pull the upset. The problem is that, that's not the typical heavyweight mentality these days...

Estrada and Povetkin are two guys who could probably make cruiserweight without too much trouble.

I don't think there is any way Estrada wins this.

this will probebly look like Povetkin vs. Chambers, except more one sided. Estrada actually isnt that bad, but man is he a fatty. needs to lose at least 20lbs before hes anything worthwhile.

still, a good fight for both of them if you ask me.

Probably not. I would stay away from that bet just cause Estrada has never really been tested. He could have a bad chin or lack the conditioning to keep Povetkin off for 30 minutes.
