Im not sticking up for Cortez im just pointing out since the Hatton fight ive noticed a pattern in the previous fights he has refereed, he does not like holding at all and never has.

He is still a baised **** though agreed.

Cortez used to be good in the 90's. He went from being known as one of the most reliable referees to being one of the most hated because of the way he handled Mayweather-Hatton and also Soto-Lorenzo.

I think many British referees stop the fights too early. It might be because of the 90's ring tragedies with Watson and McClellan.

          Thanks Enemy/Friend.

I cant help it if i get pissed at Steve Bunce bumming British fighters all the time or when i see British referees favouring a British fighter, because he is British.

You might be on to something there Machine, but why is Amir Khan allowed to go on when he can hardly walk in a straight line when he rises?

That is Frank Warren's influence IMO.

I would say British refs are far more jumpy, and at the same time, in the British fights that we are mostly exposed to there is usually one "name" or money maker, who of course gets the benefit of the doubt more because either the referee knows their pedigree and belives they have a better chance than usual of turning it round, or because they can't just TKO a star without facing any backlash or controversy most of the time

I think you will find the latter point is the case in most country's boxing scenes also

I do think that hometown referees and judges protect their champions, not only in England but everywhere else in the world.

I've seen it happen here in Finland at the lower levels of boxing.

It's a part of boxing and always has been.

Bunce is a funny guy but my only problem with him is that he likes to start this rivalry between Americans and Brits. It doesn't bother me because I enjoy a good banter but when you start calling American Heavyweights cowards then it boarders on delusional.

The Mitchell-Calzaghe fight was only slightly premature, Mitchell was certainly hurt and had been put down.
