Hatton fight Witter? Bull****.
Witter - 34 years old, earns a title shot against Judah in 2000 and loses. For the next few years he journeys around fighting in nightclubs in towns with populations of less than 50′000, this is whilst Hatton is headlining a 20′000 seated arena 5 times a year working up the rankings.
Hold it - whilst earning the right to fight Tzsyu for the title (should he have turned it down and known in foresight what the critics believed in hindsight? - that Tzsyu was washed up? Tzsyu put on a tough and competitive bout and was ranked in the top 5 p4p list at the time), Witter is fighting and beating some guy called Kotelnik (one of the current title holders) at a 1000-capacity ice rink in Nottingham, England - the Las Vegas of English boxing….(or not)
Ricky Hatton you coward, what were you doing fighting a future hall of fame artist for his world and linear championship title and breaking into the public consciousness when you could be fighting Junior Witter in a nightclub in front of 500 people?
So after becoming RING magazine fighter of the year in 2005, he is duping everyone by avoiding a guy called Ricardo Torres, who is clearly setting the light-welterweight division on fire by being knocked out by Cotto(to be fair - no shame), winning and losing a WBO belt and struggling to beat some top 40 ranked opponent called Arnaoutis. Ricky Hatton, just how does he get away with it?
well, I think I’ve worked it out, he is doing something called “seeking to unify the belts” by putting his own IBF belt on the line and fighting the WBA champion Carlos Maussa. Hatton was cleverly & clearly avoiding young Kendall Holt, who after over 3 years as a pro lost to a rookie with a record of 8-1-1. Holt is obviously striking fear into Hatton with his win and loss with….Torres, his 10 round decision win over some guy called Khodokovski and a 2008 closely struggled 10 round decision win over someone called Ben Tackie, I wonder if this is the same Tackie that Hatton beat 6 years ago? (just a thought)
Witter, the “quality” fighter is such a danger to the ducker Hatton, lets see which washed up has-been he picks on next? - Ah - he moves up a weight to challenge for the WBA welterweight championship from the has-been Luis Collazo, who at the age of 25 and with one loss was clearly over the hill. Collazo, who has remained a top 10 ranked fighter, this month faces WBC champ Andre Berto but was a clearly a much easier choice than the dangerous nightclub hitter Witter!
By this stage of Hatton’s career, what is he doing? he is signing a 3 fight HBO deal and breaking into the American market and now trying to win (back?) some rubbish called a “world championship” belt, by fighting someone who is called a “world champion” in strange places called Las Vegas. The evidence points to him going to this unknown place and trying to challenge other world champions in order to avoid the “Ice-Rink” English Warrior !!!
Whilst winning major championship belts and seeking big name fights, Hatton is by now ducking one of the many rising stars, Timothy Bradley. Beating up Collazo in 4 rounds, ending it with a body punch, knowing this would be attention grabbing and knowing it would lead to fighting the best boxer on the planet, he should instead have been seeking to take the World “youth” title from Mr Bradley instead. Or maybe he was to old?
Well, Hatton comes up short and loses against p4p king Mayweather for the first time in his career and arranges a fight in front of almost 60′000 people whilst making people like Oscar de La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Mike Tyson and Shane Moseley fly out to his home town to watch him defend his title and rebuild his confidence (he is clearly deceiving them too!). Meanwhile, Witter is battling and losing to Bradley in Nottingham.
Does Hatton then seek out a no-cash/no interest fight with Witter? No, instead he faces the RING magazine number 1 contender in Las Vegas followed by seeking a fight with some boxer called Pacquiao (I wonder if he is a washed up has been? I suppose that depends on who wins - !).
To sum it all up, Hatton, the master deceptionist has managed to become a world champion, challenge and fight other world champions for their belts, breaks through and become known away from his home, headline fights in the Mecca of Boxing, set outdoor attendance records and be sought out by two p4p boxers and make millions whilst really avoiding the true “quality” fighters of his division, such as Junior “Ice-Rink” Witter, AKA The Sheriff of Nottingham 200-person-capacity nightclubs.
