    Bernard Hopkins on Chad Dawson

    ESPN FNF:

"I told myself that I wouldn't fight any more young guys- 20, 25 year olds. Guys like Chad Dawson. Cuz they're the future, and I don't wanna take that from them."

This made me laugh my ass off. It was his answer to who he wanted to fight next, and his slick way of answering the thought that was on everybody's mind: "Will you even think of fighting Dawson?" Haha.. I guess not. The best part is that he just beat Kelly Pavlik. So we know his "young guys" argument is bull****.

I wonder what Joe Calzaghe's excuse will be?

Well Hopkins has already beat the best. So why would he Duck Dawson?

Hopkins is going to retire now, probably possibly having one more bout.
If he goes after Chad Dawson, he may as well stay and take on other prospects and champions, but what is the point, the guy is 43...

The only thing that makes sense, which is what he wants, is a another bout with Joe (who is running), RJJ (who has been running for 15+ years), and Taylor

What kind of logic is that? Just because he beats Dawson he has to continue fighting? That makes no sense.

at this stage in hopkins career dawson probably beats hopkins. we all admit it ok. is it so bad that at 43 year old not fight someone as young, fresh and strong like dawson? I think hopkins deserves a break.

He's 44 years old. Forty Four. That means he was born in 1965. 44 years old. Let that sink in for a second. One more time: 44 years old.

How many 44 year olds do you know of that fight back to back 26 year olds? Tell me.

he just beat pavlik who is 17 years younger then him. Why should Hopkins have to prove that again? Answer: he doesn't. He has NOTHING to prove. He has accomplishment more then just about anyone in the game is a HOF, and an ATG. And what does Dawson bring to the table? Money? No, he's unheard of even here in the US. Adds more to legacy? Somewhat but at this point, there is no need to prove anything. Where is the motivation for Hopkins, who said he's only interested in a fight that would motivate him? What about Dawson himself, what has he proved? He Dawson beat an old Tarver who Hopkins already dominated. He narrowly lost to Glen Johnson who Hopkins dominated and is the only man to ever stop. Who else is there? ::looks at resume:: nobody. I like Dawson but ah be real, he doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as hopkins.

It's Calzaghe or nothing from here, as he stated.

hopkins has beat the best...errr ok. have i missed something has he beat the best fighter of his generation? errr no. he beat the best SMW of his era didn't he and this while having home advantage and getting his opponent to move to a new weight. again the answer is no. has he beat the only wortwhile MW fighter (apart from himself) he faced in his career at MW? again the answer is no.

which leads me to ask who has he actually beat? errmmm DLH, winky, tito all men who are smaller than him. pavlik again another fighter who had to move up in weight to challenge bernard, and Tarver which was imo a very worthwhile and credible win.

no mate bernard hasn't beat the best.

let me tell you why i believe he isn't facing dawson. hopkins is a clever guy, he has one of the shrewdest and most calculating minds iv seen in boxing. its no surprise to me that DLH wanted him as part of GBP. hopkins knows he would lose to zaghe, zaghe has only learned more about hopkins and will adjust to him quicker than he did in the past. right now i think just about everyone agrees that if they were to fight again hopkins would lose again and the fight would be another poor show.

so were does that put hopkins. he can't make 168 or even defeat the top dogs at 168 (kess, taylor) at a catchweight of 170. he can't beat the best at LHW which is calzaghe. so whats the point of him fighting.

i believe that hopkins will wait till zaghe has retired and then look to take on dawson and become a 2 time LHW champ.

Like I said before, I think Hopkins saw how Pavlik felt about losing, and that's why he told him not to let the fight ruin him. Or maybe he is just bull****ting, but if he is I can't imagine why.
