Who thinks Cotto has stamina problems ?

Who thinks Cotto has stamina problems ?

Im not sure what to think, because ive seen all of Cotto's fights except for the Abdulaev fight, and he has always tended to box/fight and then get on his bike even in 4 rounders where he is control, i just think he likes to show his skills, not get hit and fight at his own pace.

I made this thread, because someone suggested Cotto has stamina problems, but from what ive seen he does'nt he just like to fight at his own pace and show off his skills. There have been fights where he had been too patient(John Brown,Justin Juuko) when he should of put his foot down a lot sooner, but i think its just a case of he likes to do everything at his own pace etc.

Cotto tired against Margarito, because Margarito had been hammering his body all night long. Juan Diaz also looked very tired against Nate Campbell when he lost his title and he is supremely well conditioned. The reason Diaz tired though, was the same reason Cotto got tired, Campbell hammered his body all night long after the midway point, after that his workrate just faded completely. Remember Vasquez v Marquez 3 ? go back and take a look at the last 3 rounds of the fight and watch how Marquez drops dramatically, because the body punches have taken their toll.

I guess you could say why did Cotto get on his bike against Mosley? i put that down to him thinking he had the fight in the bag

    What do you think?

I think its more mental to being physically tired.

      I dont think so.

When your body loses water you are going to start to tire physically.

Pushing yourself through the pain barrier when you dont think you have anything left is probably mental. but.

Against world class fighters(he only fought 2) He has stamina issues when he gets pressured. Against Mosley he was tired and Tony he was dead tired. So yes, to answer your question. Him being a short stout fighter, using your legs that much gets tiring

I really really don't think he has bad stamina. He definitely doesn't have the greatest stamina, but everyone always says Antonio Margarito beat Cotto because he gassed out. That is not true, he was moving around a lot, but he also got hit to the body a bunch of times and was buzzed a couple of times, basically he was broken down. Even in the first couple rounds when he clearly dominated he was still getting tagged a lot on his body.

            stanima?????

I think it was just Margs pressure from rnd 1 through 11.
cotto was ready and shape it was mentally a problem for him.
cotto will adjust for rematch and win sd.

              Yeah i agree

People who think Cotto just gassed obviously have no clue what they are watching and dont have a very good eye for what is happening in a Boxing ring.

Same with Diaz v Campbell, the people who think Diaz lost, because of his eye need to go back and watch the fight and see the amount of body shots Diaz absorbed, and how his punch output dried up when they clearly started catching up with him.

I think Cotto for the most part in his career has been used to one thing. He fights his fight and beats the other guy up until he wilts under the pressure (Judah). However, if he beats the guy up and he's still standing there (Margarito, Mosley), he has to go to plan B (win the fight on points). He is not as good with Plan B obviously but is still good enough to beat most fighters. In the case of Margarito it was just that Margs is a beast and could stand the punishment and still have enough to finish Cotto off.

                  Not exactly true.

Cotto has never been an out and out relentless pressure fighter imo, he just adopted that tactic to beat Judah.

He can become a relentless pressure fighter when he decides to go up the gears, but majority of his career he has been a Boxer/fighter/counter
                  puncher who fights in spurts.

He does more moving and counter punching than sitting down on his shots and trading, he stands and trades in spurts.

I see it different, Cotto is a heavy handed boxer/puncher who is forcing himself to become a puncher and abandon his boxing ability. He trains at a very slow pace and relaxed sparring sessions. He needs to pick it up and keep boxing and not mind so much what fans say, if the KO comes fine but he shouldn't look to mix it up looking for the KO in every fight. Yes, his stamina can improve. He lost the Margarito fight because he was more tired than hurt, in a rematch, he'll have to come in better shape.
